Several minimum wage changes will occur in the state of Minnesota beginning January 1, 2023. Of note are minimum wage changes occurring at a state-wide level, as well as increases that are specific to employers in the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul.
State of Minnesota Minimum Wage Increases

City of Minneapolis Minimum Wage Increases
The city of Minneapolis minimum wage increases that are effective January 1, 2023 apply to large businesses in Minneapolis only (those with more than 100 employees). The minimum wage for small businesses in Minneapolis (with 100 or few employees) remains at the July 1, 2022 level until next summer. Note that as of July 1, 2023 the minimum wage for this category of businesses will change as outlined below. More information can be found at the Minneapolis city website.
City of St. Paul Minimum Wage Increases
Minimum wage rates for employers in the city of St. Paul will increase as of January 1, 2023 in the “Macro Businesses & City of St. Paul – More than 10,000 employees” category only. That being said, there will be minimum wage rat changes in all of the other categories as of July 1, 2023.
