Matt grew up in Eden Prairie and attended high school at St. Paul Academy. From there he moved on to St. Olaf College, where he majored in English with a concentration in Media Studies. He studied abroad in Greece and the Caribbean before graduating in 2008. After two years living and working in Minneapolis, Matt moved to Denver for law school at the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He satisfied his broad-ranging curiosity by taking a wide variety of classes, participating in mock trial, working for the Colorado Attorney General’s Office and Boulder County District Attorney, and writing a directed research paper titled “The Ed O’Bannon Class Action Lawsuit: A New Paradigm for College Sports.” that was published in the Colorado Lawyer. Matt returned home to the Twin Cities after graduating from law school in 2013 and was admitted to the Minnesota Bar and is licensed to practice in Minnesota.
He joined Sanford, Pierson, Thone, and Strean in January 2018 after three and a half years at U.S. Bank, where he drafted and negotiated contracts and worked on regulatory compliance and risk management issues. Sanford, Pierson, Thone & Strean was founded in 1995 and is based in Wayzata, Minnesota. The firm provides legal services in the areas of Business and Corporate law, Estate Planning, Real Estate, Litigation and Creditor Remedies. Our attorneys are licensed to practice law in Minnesota, Wisconsin, North Dakota, and the U.S. District Courts of Minnesota, Western Wisconsin, and Eastern Wisconsin.

To ensure we can continue to provide our clients with focused, individual support, Sanford, Pierson, Thone & Strean has also recently added to our staff two Project Managers – Valerie Cardozo and Jenniah Fredericks – and Marketing Coordinator Kari Miller. Over the past several years the firm has experienced consistent growth and plans to continue hiring staff and attorneys to meet projected future growth.
